To learn more about Acholi people of Northern Uganda book for an Acholi Cultural Tour with Grime Safaris today
The Acholi People of Northern Uganda are a luo speaking community part of the Nilotic Ethnic group who originated and migrated from the Bar el Gazel in the present day South Sudan due to a number of factors.
The reason for migration of the Acholi people among the luo during the "Luo Migration" from South Sudan were due to pests and diseases, limited pasture for their livestock, infertile land for crop production, Famine, Drought, external and internal conflicts
The Acholi people are the decendants of Labongo brother to Gipir. Gipir and Labongo were the sons of Olum the great grand grand father of the luo people but the two brothers separated due to the "Legend of the spear and the bead". The Conflict between Gipir and Labongo led to the crossing of River Nile by Labongo and leaving his brother at Povungu who are now the Alur People.
Acholi People are very hospitable communities in Northern Uganda occupying districts of Gulu, Pader, Kitgum, Omoro, Lamwo, Agago, Amuru and Nwoya.
